Reflection

Technology is important because we use it in our everyday lives. Technology isn’t just for our entertainment. It is used in medical procedures. Technology has an important role in everyone’s life. Over the past five years technology has greatly changed. Cell phones and computers have been updated. You can find new programs for your computer to update it and get rid of your old slow computer program. Cars have changed along with cell phones and computers. You can now buy cars that are more fuel efficient and are safer for the environment. Over the next five years technology will change even more than it is changing now.  Smart phones will be faster and will have new programs, cars might be electric, and computers will be faster.
The technology that I use for school work is the computer. When I am doing a research project I look for the information on the internet. When I am learning new things about the computer I am using the computer. When I am not using the computer for school work, I use the computer for playing games and going on social networks. When my school work is done and I have nothing to do I will go on the computer.
In the future I can use some of the tools I learned about in this class for other classes or I might need to know how to use these tools for a job.
I can use blogger for my online projects. If I didn’t have a flash drive or I couldn’t save my work into a folder I could get the embed code and embed the project to my blog for the teacher to see.
I can use delicious for tagging websites and having them all in one place instead of just bookmarking it or making it a favorite. When I tag the website I will have them on any computer be logging into my delicious account.
I can use podcast for projects that I would have to get up and speak in front of the class. If it is ok with the teacher I can have my voice talking about the project instead of me talking in front of the class.
I can use avatars for gaming websites if you don’t want to show your real face you can make an avatar and use your voice. I could also use the avatar on a business website if I ever own a business or have my own website.
I can use wiki for starting a research project. If I don’t know where to start looking for information and find a good source wiki is a good place to start looking.
I can use RSS feed to save time instead of going out to websites looking for things the website sends you information and good deals so everything is right in one place.
I can use igoogle for keeping my information organized. I can use igoogle to check my email, look at the news in the newsfeed, keep events organized using the calendar, and play games when I get bored.
With widgets and gadgets I can have everything in one place and know where to find them. I can find new things that might be useful.
All of these tools might be important for lifelong learning, but the tool that I think is the most important would be the podcast. People who have trouble reading might find it easier to listen and that would help them understand. When using the podcast, you can learn how to record your voice and let other people hear you.
My favorite tool that we used was the avatars. I liked creating it to make it look like me and adding my voice to the avatar. It was easier to talk about myself that way than to talk in front of the class. My least favorite tool that we used was the RSS feed. It was confusing at first but when we used it more it was easier to use. I didn’t like this tool as much because it wasn’t fun to use.

I learned that the most important thing to use when you are online is common sense. I also learned that you have to be careful about what information you put out on the internet because anybody could easily find information about you that could lead to where you live.
I learned that searching the internet is easy. I learned that if you do the researching first it is easier to put your project together and you will most likely have all the information and facts that you need.
I learned how to use things without copyrighting them. I learned that it is easy for someone to charge you of copyright infringement and ways to avoid being charged.

voki vs. blabberize

http://www.voki.com/ is a site where you can create an avatar. The avatar can have your voice. You can customize the avatar to look like you. http://www.blabberize.com/ is a site where you can make pictures talk. You take the pictures mouth and select the area you want to move. You can have your voice talk when the picture moves its mouth. The two websites are similar because you can have your voice talk through the avatar or picture. The websites are different because one uses an avatar and the other uses pictures that you can make talk.
The website that was easier to use was http://www.voki.com/ because the mouth would automatically talk and you didn't have to place the mouth and get it to move. I would use both websites again but voki was my favorite so I would use that website first. I could use these for projects in other classes. This would make the project more interesting. If you had to talk in front of the class and you are not very good at presenting you could use an avatar to talk for you if the teacher lets you.

copyright case

Greenberg vs. National Geographic Society (NGS)
http://www.ala.org/ala/issuesadvocacy/copyright/copyrightcases/index.cfm#green
Greenberg and the National Geographic Society went to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the eleventh circuit on June 7th (the year was not given). American Library Association (ALA) and library associations have a long history with this case. This case involves 1 CD-ROM that has photo scanned images of the entire National Geographic magazine from the year 1888 to 1996 in searchable format.
National Geographic magazine was sued by freelance photographers and writers for copyright infringement because some of their works are included in the CD-ROM that the National Geographic Society produced. A lower court found that the publication on the CD-Rom was allowed under the copyright act, but the U.S court appeals for the eleventh circuit revised the rule against the NGS.
In conclusion Greenberg’s case had major implications for projects that include pictures from famous people and scholar’s works. He proved that the public may have access to those materials.

netsmartz

I went to the netsmartz page and watched tracking Teresa. The information she gave out was her name but only her first name. people could tell that she was a girl because her name is Teresa. When people were looking foe her they found all of this information. She has a valid email address and instant messenger.People were looking for things about her and found what time of day she will be home, her mom or sisters name is sue,and her home phone number. People know her last name because of her phone number.People know where her school is and where her house is.
Yes i have put personal information on the internet.
Common sense is the most important thing to remember when using the internet.

The second video i watched was Julie's journey. She met a 56 year old man on the internet. she wasn't supposed to be talking to him but she did because she was mad at her parents. They kept talking and they were building a relationship. Julie ran a way for 3 weeks with the man. They were caught and the man had to go to jail for 25 years.Julie was lucky because she could have been killed. She wasn't killed but it made her realize that running away was not the answer.

About Netiquette

Netiquette is network etiquette. Netiquette is a set of rules that tells you how to properly behave online. Sometimes people can forget that they are online and could easily hurt the feelings of others. Netiquette has two purposes and the purposes are to help people that are new to the web minimize their mistakes and to help people that are not new to the web still practice these rules. These rules and explanations will help you and guide you as you are online.
Rules
1. Remember the Human
• You can’t use facial expressions when you are behind a computer screen so be careful what you say.
• It’s easy to misinterpret what another person is trying to say. When talking through chat or email consider the feelings of others.
2. Adhere to the same standards of behavior online that you follow in real life
• Be ethical don’t copy another person’s work if you use something like shareware you have to pay for it.
• Breaking the law is a bad netiquette. Follow the law and don’t steal. If you are tempted to do something illegal online it is most likely a bad netiquette.
3. Know where you are in cyberspace
• Netiquette varies from domain to domain. If you can do something in one place it doesn’t mean you can do the same thing in another place.
• Lurk before you leap. When you are new to a website look around before you join. Look at how the other people behave and what things they do.
4. Respect other peoples time and bandwidth
• You are not the center of cyberspace. When you are working with others it is not always about what you want. You have to be aware of what other people have to say.
• Things to remember when in a discussion group are don’t spend too much time in the group you need to think of others that are not on the computer.
5. Make yourself look good online
• Take advantage of your anonymity. Nobody can see you so you won’t be judged on how you look.
• Know what you are talking about and make sure it makes since. Don’t post something that doesn’t if you are not sure think it over before you post it.
• Don’t post flame bait. Do not use bad language it is not polite to do this.
6. Share expert knowledge.
• If you post something that is not yours be sure to include the link or source of where you got it from.
7. Help keep flame wars under control
• When people flame the express themselves with what they truly feel. Sometimes they can get boring when people aren’t involved in them.
8. Respect other people’s privacy
• Never read someone’s email. It’s not any of your business and if someone finds out you can get in a lot of trouble.
9. Don’t abuse your power
• Some people have more power than others do on the web. If you have more power it doesn’t give you the right to take advantage of them.
10. Be forgiving of other people’s mistakes.
• Everyone who is online can make mistakes. If it directed towards you be forgiving and let them know their mistake and how it hurt you. But don’t be mad at them.

RSS post

An RSS feed gets you the newest info from a website without you searching for it. All you have to do is subscribe to your favorite websites.
This tool will be useful to me because I won’t have to waste time looking for information. If I don’t feel like going to many websites looking for the newest information I can just subscribe to the page and the info will come to me.
If you go to this website http://www.labnol.org/internet/create-rss-feed-for-websites/5470/ it will show you other RSS websites for example it shows you how to use Google reader. I like Google reader better because that is what I know how to use. I can find the things I’m looking for faster and in an organized way.
